She holds a BA in history from UCLA, an MA in sociology from SDSU, and is a current PhD student in education through SDSU and Claremont Graduate University. She also works as an adjunct college instructor and high school teacher. She has been involved in education for a decade, having been involved in educational efforts at Hillel at UCLA, The Getty, and various educational settings. She was a first-generation college graduate and is the first in her family to be in a doctorate program. In her spare time, she enjoys writing science fiction, reading, playing music (primarily the saxophone and the keyboard,) and going to the beach or hiking with her family (she has 6-year-old and 8-year-old children.)
Aaron is one of our academic coaches. He is a 4th year sociology major at UC Santa Barbara. He says he joined The Dignified Learning Project to help students achieve their educational goals and provide them with a reliable resource, should college be the route they want to take. One of his major goals include ensuring that students from all backgrounds have access to a high quality education, along with reassuring them that college can be a place where you find who you truly are. He is a first-generation college student in his family and is the eldest of two other siblings. He grew up in Los Angeles and is a huge sports fan. He currently works at In-N-Out Burger and in his free time he enjoys bicycling, playing video games, watching sports or spending time with friends and family.
Calvin Liew is the resident public sociologist. He holds a BA in sociology from SDSU and is currently a MA student in sociology at SDSU.
